MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) — Paul Cortez can remember the night 31 years ago as clearly as if it was last week. He walked into the pediatric intensive care unit of Riverside County Regional Medical Center to find his 7-year-old son, Mikey, barely clinging to life.

Doctors told Cortez Mikey might not make it. A drunken driver smashed into the car carrying the boy and relatives, sending four of them, including his mother, brother and sister, to other hospitals. Four other relatives, including Mikey’s oldest brother, were dead.

This story is Absolutely Mind Boggling!

This story is a result of a drunk driver whose blood alcohol level measured more than 3 times the legal limit.

Drunk drivers should spend no less than ten years in prison on the first offense, but should they harm anyone other than themselves, the minimum sentence should be no less than 25 years.

No plea bargaining. No parole. No probation. No mercy.

Just mandatory prison time.
